After many years not playing racing games at all (~10 years to be exact), I'm now considering getting back into it after ending up on iracing.com and looking at different game which brought back memories from Mobil 1 Rally Championship and a few other games. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on a G27 but decided to wait for a sale. All excited, I dusted off my old Act-Labs force RS with 7 speed shifter and plugged everything. I then tried a few races in Dirt3 (free with my radeon 6950 bought last year) and boy was I disappointed. It did not feel realistic at all, the wheel was noisy, shifter quite loud too. I tried tweaking the settings but no luck. I then switched to Grid which for which the steering / force feedback felt a lot more realistic but still nowhere near what I was expecting to be. Graphics were great however.

It felt a bit like playing old computer games that you remember how awesome they were but when you play them again you can't believe how you liked them before.. Is it because I now have a lot more driving experience on different cars and motorcycles?

I don't know anyone with a G27 or decent steering wheel so can't try one but the last thing I want is to fork our $200+ for a wheel and end up quite disappointed so I'm hoping that this was because my Force RS is simply outdated. I've however seen quite a few posts on the web of people still playing with these wheels.

Just how much better is the G27? I heard the shifter is quite bad. but the T500R + Thrustmaster shifter is quite expensive.

Thanks!
